Today Viking Line is launching a brand-new interactive website about its future vessel, the NB 1376. This innovative passenger and car ferry, expected to begin service on the Baltic Sea in January 2013, is under construction at the STX Finland shipyard in Turku. The new website, www.nb1376.com, was developed by Flatlight Films Oy, Fellowland Oy and Jussi Solja. Its aim is to create an interactive platform focusing on the online experience. The core of the project is a blog that will be updated continuously. The site will describe various specialists and individuals who are part of the project team for the new vessel and the various stages of construction work by means of blog texts and many-facetted video productions. Vertti Kivi of the interior architecture office dSign will be responsible for information about the vessel design, and Cruise Manager Johanna Molin will tell about future programmes and experiences on the new vessel. Henrik Grönvik, the vessel’s commanding officer, will be in charge of technical information. The vessel’s unique environmental characteristics will be highlighted, since the NB 1376 will be one of the most environmentally friendly cruise vessels in the world.
There has been surprisingly heavy interest, mainly due to the choice of fuel (liquefied natural gas, LNG) for the vessel as well as its modern, unique interior design. For this reason, Viking Line has chosen English as the main language on the website, but with many added elements of Swedish and Finnish.
An exciting interactive naming competition for the NB 1376
Along with the new website, Viking Line is also launching a naming competition for the new vessel. The competition begins on December 1 and ends on January 15, 2012. A jury will select the winning name. As a prize the winner can participate, along with ten friends, in the vessel’s maiden voyage. The date when the name and the winner are revealed will be announced later on the website. At www.nb1376.com you can test how your own proposed name would look when painted on the exterior of the vessel. The winning contribution will decorate the vessel starting in early 2013.
“In the past, there has been very extensive interest in similar naming competitions. Now that we are launching such a competition on the web and also in a completely new way, it will be intriguing to see how many suggestions come in. But the most important thing is that we arrive at a fitting and suitable name that describes this modern, environmentally friendly vessel in the right way” says Taru Kauppinen, Product Manager of the vessel.
